Polaroid Collage- Assignment #5

Polaroid Collage:

              In the next assignment, we created a polaroid collage. In my work, I designed a dancer as if it was several polaroids. The strongest technical aspect of my work is definitely how I placed my polaroids. The placement of the polaroids is my strongest technical aspect because it became difficult to balance the polaroids. However, I am proud I managed to place them appropriately. A technical aspect of work that I can improve on is the idea of having parts of her body out of polaroids. In this assignment, we must also be sure a part of your image falls off of a polaroid. Although I did do it once, I believe that aspect would have been stronger if improved more.

             The easiest aspect of this activity was the arrangement of the background. The background was the easiest aspect because you simply had to create a few layers that work with each other. This part was easy for my design because many things can work with the topic of dance like any other type of art. A part of this activity that was difficult was the idea of some polaroids over the object and others behind. At times it became difficult because I could not decide what would look better in certain situations.

               The objective of the polaroid collage is to create a well balanced thematic collage that develops the illusion of scattered polaroids including a symbolic background. I demonstrated this objective by balancing the illusion of my polaroids. I also created a corresponding background that can stand well on its own and symbolizes more of my idea, dance. If I could do this art activity again, I would change the placement of my polaroids. I realized that most of the dancers upper body appears over the polaroids and could surely be improved and rearranged. In conclusion, in our 5th assignment, I created a polaroid collage.

Tattoo Artist Assignment #4

Artist Reflection:
              The next assignment was the tattoo artist assignment. In this assignment we had to follow strict directions from a handout given to us. There were several steps you needed to follow word for word. The strongest technical aspect of my work is the tattoo itself. I had to use the warp tool and change the opacity to create the illusion that my tattoo is real. A technical aspect of my work that can be improved is the realism of the tattoo. At the moment, the tattoo looks very photoshopped and doesn't quite appear that its on the wrist.
               This art activity was both easy and difficult in different ways. This activity was easy because all of the steps on how to complete the assignment were already laid out for you in the directions. The most difficult part of this activity was editing the hand to make the tattoo look more realistic. We had to edit the hand so the tattoo would appear to be on the wrist more.
               The objective of this activity was to create the appearance of a tattoo using the warp tool. I demonstrated this objective by creating a tattoo on the wrist. I attempted to make the tattoo look more realistic by using the warp tool to wrap around the wrist. If I could do this art activity again, I would attempt to warp the tattoo even more to wrap the tattoo around the wrist more. In conclusion, in this assignment I created a tattoo using the warp tool and made it look realistic to the best of my ability.

Unified Imaginary Landscape #3

Artist Reflection:
            In my unified imaginary landscape, I experimented with foreground, middle ground, and background. The strongest technical aspect of my work is my mountain I inserted. I inserted my mountain using the masking tool. I used the masking tool to put the mountain behind parts of my background. A technical aspect of my work that I could improve on is the amount of objects I inserted in my landscape. For example, I could have added more shrubs, animals, or trees.  Therefore, my landscape contains both strong aspects and aspects I can improve on.
            This art assignment had both difficult and easy aspects. The easiest part of this activity was using the magic wand. I used the magic wand to make the background from the original eagle image disappear. The magic wand is easy to use because all you do is click anywhere in the background and it automatically selects the object and it deletes the background. The most difficult part of this activity is the cropping of animals with the lasso tool. The lasso tool was very time consuming and was difficult to crop perfectly. However, after a long, slow process, the lasso tool eventually crops the object out.
             The objective of this activity is using foreground, middle ground, and background. In my landscape I used all of the above. The foreground is filled with objects that appear closest to you like the deer. In my middle ground I have a moose, canoe, and an eagle, all found in different areas of the landscape. In my background, for example, you will find a mountain. If I were to do this assignment again, I would change the sky in my background to something more exciting. For example, I could add a sunset or a cloudy/foggy sky. In conclusion, in my unified imaginary landscape, I experimented with foreground, middle ground, and background.

Text Design #1

Text Design:
                 The first assignment is called the Text Design assignment. In this assignment, we chose a letter and created a unique design. The strongest technical aspect of my work is the front layer. I believe my front layer is my strongest technical aspect because you cannot tell what letter it is identified as. This aspect makes my work look more like a design rather than a group of random letters. A technical aspect of my work I could improve on is my variety of K's. The design definitely looks unique but I think it could be something more if I added more K's to my design so it becomes even more complicated and appealing to the eye.
                 The easiest part of this activity was the coloring of the letters. This part of the assignment you had to be entirely spontaneous and choose colors you enjoy. In my design I chose three different colors and changed there opacity's. I changed the opacity to make them appear more than three colors. The most difficult part of this activity was the placement of the letters. This assignment needed to be radial symmetry. Radial symmetry is symmetry all around the four corners of the design. It was especially difficult when the K had to be flipped and rotated differently in each corner. An example of this is my blue letter K's in the bottom left, bottom right, top left, and top right.
                 The objective of this activity was to balance color using radial symmetry. I demonstrate this objective by rotating and flipping the letters to create a radial design. You can tell this is radial symmetry because it had the same letter and same format done to it in each of the four corners. If I could do this art activity again I would change one aspect. If I were to do this again I would attempt to make the K less obvious of what it is. By this I mean I will place the K's in a way that you may not recognize them as letters. In conclusion, in this assignment I learned many new aspects of radial symmetry and text design.
               

Personal Identity #2

 Artist Reflection:        

              In the personal identity assignment I learned many new aspects of design and photoshop. The strongest aspect of my work is my camera. I inserted the camera in my work to represent my interest in photography. I enjoy how it is very realistic and shows the camera I personally use. I also like how the variety of colors makes it stand out well in the background and believe this also makes my work stronger. A technical aspect that I could improve on is my dancer. Throughout the making of this work I struggled to make the dancer stand out from the background. My last realization to fix the situation was to change the color of the skirt to purple. That surely made a significant difference but the dancer somehow still looks slightly lost towards her head. In addition, I believe I could have made something around her head a more eye-catching color.

              The personal identity assignment had both easy and hard solutions throughout the making of the artwork. The easiest part of this activity is the organization. Organization, meaning, the placement of the objects and shapes and searching for them online. Once I understood what my concept would be, I already knew what I could include to fit my theme of art. The objects I have chosen seemed to be quite easy to place in correct places and almost makes them look as if they were one image. However, although there were many easy parts of this activity, it was also very difficult at times. The most difficult part of this activity was definitely the coloring of each object. With this assignment, the coloring of the objects is easier said than done. Each color needed to correspond with another forming an imaginary triangular shape. I assumed this task would be simple, but in most situations the colors would blend easily into the background. This difficult task was surely the most time-consuming part as well. 

                 In this art activity I demonstrated the objective. The objective of this art activity is to show a unified self portrait through color. This means to show off your personality in work and emphasize it with color. I demonstrated this by creating my theme of art because art is a huge impact on my daily life. I added color in triangular shapes to balance out the color and make my design even more appealing. If I could do this art activity again I would do a few things differently. The first thing I would do differently I would choose a new topic. I enjoyed my art theme, however, I would like to experiment to see what else I could create from another topic. Another thing I would do differently is I would choose a more cooperative background. Throughout my first attempt I struggled in several different situations to choose vibrant colors that would not blend with my background. I feel the background was definitely my biggest mistake that I would surely change. In conclusion, in my personal identity assignment I learned many new aspects of design and photoshop.
